The HIAB qualification is a legal requirement for people wishing to use a lorry mounted crane (including brick cranes, grabs, lifting cranes, etc.).

Lorry mounted cranes are popular particularly within the building trade where building products and materials need to be maneuvered on construction sites or residential sites where other unloading facilities are not available.

The HIAB qualified operator is therefore responsible for using the crane safely and ensuring correct positioning of the vehicle prior to lifting, correct position of the support arms, capacity and stability of the crane and a full awareness of any external factors for example pedestrians, power lines etc.).
