Minibus PCV Category D1 Training

If you passed your test before 1st January 1997 you already hold the Category D1 entitlement but with the 101 restriction of 'not for hire or reward'.

If you want the 101 restriction removed to enable you to earn money driving a minibus then you will have to take a Category D1 driving test.

Note: Hire or reward encompasses any payment in cash or kind (or on behalf of) passengers which gives them a right to be carried.

If you passed your test after 1st January 1997 you do not have the Category D1 entitlement on your licence and you cannot drive a minibus.

However, you may drive if:
a) you drive for a non-commercial body but not for hire or reward
b) you are over 21
c) have held a car licence for 2 years
d) are providing your service on a voluntary basis
e) the minibus is under 3.5 tonnes

We provide a full service from start to finish enabling you to pass your Minibus D1 Training.  Please see details below of the steps we take you through to becoming qualified:

1. Apply for a Provisional Licence:

Complete DVLA form D2, this is the application form for a provisional category D1 photo card driving licence.
Book a PCV medical examination with a doctor. The doctor will need to complete DVLA form D4.
Send off both parts of your category B (car) licence, D2 and D4 forms to the DVLA in Swansea.
DVLA forms D2 and D4 are available from your local DVLA office

2. Book your Theory Test:

Upon receipt of your PCV provisional driving licence from the DVLA you can then book your Driver CPC Module 1 theory test with Truck Training Leeds.  You will need to pass this before you can take your practical test.

3. PCV Theory Test (Driver CPC Module 1):

The Driver CPC Module 1 theory test is divided into two separate parts, Multiple Choice Test and the Hazard Perception Test. After passing the theory test you can start your practical training.
There is various revision material available to assist you in passing the Driver CPC Module 1 theory tests which we strongly recommend you study.  Please ask a member of our staff for details.
Also, mock theory tests can be found on the DSA website www.dsa.gov.uk.
Case Study Test (Driver CPC Module 2)
This is required in addition to passing the two parts of the theory tests, if you want to become a professional driver (which means you will drive for a living) you will also need to pass a Driver CPC Case Study Test.
The Case Study Test is computer based and questions are related to real life situations you may encounter in your working life as a professional driver. For further information and to book please contact us for details.

4. Practical Driver Training & Test (Driver CPC Module 3):

Our practical training course covers all aspects required by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) Syllabus, including vehicle safety check questions, driving on urban & rural roads, procedures at bus stops, dual carriageways & motorways, also off-road reversing and braking exercises.

5. Practical Demonstration Test (Driver CPC Module 4):

If you need to achieve the full professional Driver CPC qualification, after passing the practical test you will also be required to complete a Driver CPC Module 4 Practical Demonstration Test.
This test takes place at our practical test centre and the examiner will test your knowledge in the following areas:
Prepare for duty in a safe manner
Ensure your vehicle is fit for service
Inspect and use equipment in conjunction with the Disability Discrimination Act
Show you can take measures to ensure that illegal immigrants or goods are prevented from being carried

Please contact us for more details and bookings for The Driver CPC Module 4 Practical Demonstration Test
