What to expect in your HGV LGV test

Your LGV HGV is devised of a Theory Test and a Practical Driving Test.

The Theory Test is based on 100 questions and will examine and test your knowledge.

The Practical Test is around 90 minutes of road driving to test you vehicle and safety skills.

The HGV LGV Theory Test

The Theory test is designed to test your knowledge of the skills and regulations required to become a safe lorry driver.

You will use a computer terminal with touch screen to take the test.

There are 100 questions related to HGV driving. You will be expected to answer 85 or more correctly to obtain a pass.

The HGV LGV Practical Test

The Practical test last about 90 minutes of driving and is performed under the strict supervision of a DSA Examiner.

The examiner will give you clear and concise instructions on where to drive and instruct you to perform certain exercises.

You will be instructed to perform manoeuvring exercises along with road driving such as reversing into a marked spot, braking, coupling and re-coupling.
